(2019-2022 and 2023) WHICH ACCESSORY? FOB-based remote start vs Starlink remote start (MySubaru)

WHICH ACCESSORY? FOB-based remote start vs Starlink remote start (MySubaru)

REVISED PART NUMBERS – IF YOUR DEALER TOLD YOU THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE, USE THE NEW PART NUMBERS BELOW,

There has been some confusion about the remote launch capabilities of the climb. There are two ways to start the Ascent remotely… either using the MySubaru app (“Starlink remote start” which does not use the Starlink app), or via the remote start FOB.

Here are the details of all the options available to you, including the part number required where applicable,

QUICK PARTS LIST (as of May 2023):

YEARS WITH TELEPHONES/NO CELLS PART NUMBER
2019-2022 BEGINNING DONE H001SXC100
2019-2022 KEYLESS START H001SXC001
2023 BEGINNING DONE H001SXC300
2023 KEYLESS START H001SXC200

IF you have the remote start kit installed:

  • FOB-based remote start is available on EVERY Climb (if accessory installed).
  • Regular FOBs for PRESS THE START BUTTON Ascents WILL remote start your Ascent if the accessory is installed.
  • Regular key fob for key start will NOT remote start your Ascent (thanks @Pleiades)
  • The remote start accessory is NOT required for Starlink (My Subaru app/website) Remote Start.
  • You can have up to 8 FOBs registered in the system – registering a ninth will remove the oldest. (thanks @Pleiades)

(more details below in each section)

FOB based remote start WILL work with it EVERYTHING Types of fob in PUSHING THE BUTTON, BUT only if THE remote engine start control module is installed, AND fobs are registered with remote engine start control module. For KEYED Jump Starters, only the remote engine start FOB will start the car remotely, BUT, you can add more remote ignition fobs, for a total of eight.

2023:

GET STARTED WITH THE STARLINK APP
Starlink Remote Start does NOT require the remote engine start control unit, but does require:

  • electrical system found on the Subaru Global Platform
  • press the start button
  • Starlink Security Plus subscription

This means that Starlink Remote Start via the app is limited to the following (due to the push button start requirement):

  • All Premium except Keyed Start Premium
  • All Onyx
  • All limited
  • TOURNAMENTS

You will have TWO types of keys, not all three, depending on the trim level, option package and accessories you have.

Here’s a video demonstrating one Regular The FOB that is connected to the Remote Start Engine Control Module starting my Ascent with an Ascent push button start.
