2018 daytime running lights – simple troubleshooting?

I went to get my 2018 Outback inspected today, and it wouldn’t pass because my driver’s side daytime running lights aren’t working. The mechanic told me that I would need to replace the entire headlight assembly in order to fix this. However, I am wondering if there is any other troubleshooting that can be done before I dish out $700 for the part?

The passenger side DRLs work. So, from what I understand, it likely isn’t the fuse. Is it worthwhile to check the relay? Wiring?

I am not very experienced with doing my own troubleshooting on a newer vehicle. But I can follow along with good instructions. Looking for suggestions to avoid paying hundreds of dollars to fix this!
