Its possible to get a hood from a salvage yard that could even be the right color. These hoods aren’t all that common but they are out there from time to time. Subaru has a long history of non-functional hood scoops in the North American market, no reason to change that now!
Yes it definitely is, especially in this modern day an age where most wreckyards ( pick aparts ) have all the inventory connected in a single national database. Meaning when I called one in my area ( SF, Ca) he not only told me that he didn’t have one but there was one in San Diego.
You are correct in saying they are extremely rare to find because the GT was released in US in very limited numbers , and good luck finding one that was from a wreck and wasn’t damaged.
My initial research led me to buy one of those cheap 250 replacement hoods ( from China). Free shipping! What could go wrong . Well because it’s made from cheap metal that thing arrived bent on all 4 corners and in the center . When I took it to the paint shop the guys told me it would cost the same amount to fix then paint if I just bought an OEM one . Btw , I emailed the company and told them that it was bent and they said , we’ll refund you just keep it. So I had a free hood but it was going to cost me the same to fix as just buying a SUBARU OEM one.
I decided to ditch it and do it right .
You could look for one on eBay but again it’s such a large and odd shape that there’s a chance of shipping damage, that’s why the wreck yards don’t ship – you’ll have to drive to pick up. If you can find one.
