Yesterday I took my 2012 OB to the dealer for the 120k service and had them diagnose some strange changes that had started the day before. Well, I got a call last night that the CVT has “excess metal shavings” on it and needs to be replaced.
Total bid is ~$16k for 120k service, new transmission, new front lower control arm bushings and new rear wheel bearings. I’m pretty sure that’s basically what the car is worth now. It’s called an independent shop and they can do the same job for ~$12k, but they don’t have an opening for a few weeks.
What do you think? Is it worth repairing the car, or time to bite the bullet and upgrade? I’m hesitant since the used car market is so hot right now, but on the other hand, I have the funds to buy new if that’s the best move.
