2004 outback, P0692 error code

2004 outback, 2.5, manual transmission., 142k miles.

I’m getting a P0692 error code. The radiator fans won’t turn on. Relays test good for ohms, fuses are good. When I connect the green test connectors, the fans do not run. All the wires appear intact. If I jump the relay, the fans run fine.

I think the ecu might be bad. Looking to buy a used one as the dealer discontinued this part. Looking at the current ecu, there are a total of 25 letters/numbers on the cover. I have seen some on ebay that match down to the last two digits. Would this work?

Is there any resource to decipher/convert the letters/numbers and find a used ecu that can be swapped in? Any thoughts on other causes besides a bad ecu?

The numbers/letters on my ecu are:

7S 22611 AJ20A A18-000 R14 3424,

The car Vin # 5FNYF4H78CB028662

Thanks
